For Equity, Justice and fairness, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gideon Obhakhan, has appealed to people from other senatorial districts, to allow Edo Central Senatorial district, (Esan people), to produce the next governor in the forthcoming 2024 gubernatorial election.
Speaking with journalists when he paid a courtesy call on the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Mr. Festus Alenkhe, said the visit was to intimate the council of his plan to contest the forthcoming 2024 governorship election in the state.
Gideon, a former Commissioner for Education under former governor Adams Oshiomhole, said at the end of governor Godwin Obaseki led administration in 2024, Edo South and Edo North senatorial districts respectively would have ruled Edo state for 24 years leaving out Edo Central with just one year.
“By 2024, in this current dispensation, it would be 25 years governance in state without Edo Central (Esan extraction). Governors, deputies, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, always comes from either Edo South or Edo North”
He said Esan people would continue to lobby, consulting and appealing to others that for equity and fairness, they should support Esan person to be the next governor, because they don’t have the numbers to contend with other districts in terms of free for all election.
Obhakhan, who is contesting the governorship candidate under the platform of APC, pledged that if he emerged as governor, he would focus on youths and women empowerment, agriculture, road infrastructure among others, assuring that he is ready and prepared for the governorship race come 2024.
He said he believe a governor of Esan extraction hence they are meeting other districts which he said are buying into the idea of the district producing the next governor of the state.
