EDUCATION

Gideon Obhakhan

Gideon Obhakhan began his education at Emaudo Primary School, Ekpoma, Edo State, between 1977 and 1983. He then proceeded to Annunciation Catholic College (ACC) Irrua, after a 2-year stay at Emaudo Secondary School. He passed his West African School Certificate Examination at ACC and has since then continued to search for more knowledge in various fields, ranging from Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, and Political Science. He is currently on his 7th degree as a Doctoral research candidate in Comparative Politics and Development Studies at the University of Benin, Benin City. As someone who is determined to be the best in whatever he does, Gideon ensures that he backs up what he does in his personal life and business with detailed knowledge in the respective fields.

This has informed his search for knowledge in several academic disciplines. After obtaining his West African School Certificate, he proceeded to Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, where he obtained his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering and became one of the best graduating students with a “Good” as his grade. He then gained admission through Direct Entry into Electrical/Electronics Engineering department at the University of Benin in 1995 and graduated again as one of the top in his class with a Second Class Honours (Upper degree), scoring over 4 point Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Not yet satisfied with his academic pursuit, he proceeded to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Communication Engineering. As someone who was interested in unravelling the intricacies of business management, Gideon decided to take a shot at it and went further in his quest for knowledge to obtain a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. Having acquired higher degrees in his original Engineering profession and Business Administration, his interest in Public Administration grew, having being appointed as Commissioner for Education in Edo State. He decided to learn more about public service environment in his quest to serve his people well.

He therefore decided to get a degree in Public Administration where he graduated as the best student in Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration, University of Benin. He immediately proceeded in the same institution to obtain a Master’s degree in Political Science, becoming yet again the best graduating student. His special focus was on Comparative Politics and Development Studies, and has since proceeded to start a PhD research programme in the same field. The young man whose search for knowledge knows no bound, believes that as a man continues to exercise his body, there is also the need to continuously exercise his brain, and contribute the knowledge so-gained towards the development of mankind. He has been quoted as saying that after his PhD in Political Science, he hopes to get a degree in Law, and also qualify as a Chartered Accountant before he would hang his pen for a while.
